Bridging traditional broadcasting and digital listening through a multi-universe app experience.
Context
Cadena SER, the leading radio network in Spain, wanted to rethink its mobile app to unite two very different audiences: traditional radio listeners and digital-native users.
The goal was to redesign the app experience to highlight the brand’s rich catalog of live, local, and on-demand content, creating a platform that felt both familiar and innovative.
Challenge
How to design an app capable of meeting the needs of two radically different listener types - loyal live-radio fans and digital content consumers - while maintaining the essence and accessibility that define Cadena SER
The main challenge was to translate the emotional, spontaneous nature of traditional radio into a digital experience that is intuitive, flexible, and aligned with new listening habits.
Solution
Garaje de Ideas has designed an app based on three intuitive worlds, accessible with a simple gesture, offering a fluid and natural experience for every listener profile:
Search Universe (Left swipe) For users who know exactly what they want. Quick access to favorite programs, podcasts and content, organized for easy discovery.
Central Universe (Home) For live listeners. Immediate access to current broadcasts, hot topics and ongoing shows; a digital evolution of classic radio.
“Be Me” Universe (Right swipe) For connected listeners. A personalized space showing followed programs, saved podcasts, and relevant recommendations.
The interface was designed without complex menus, focusing on accessibility, interaction, and community features that invite users to comment, share, and connect directly with journalists.
